Health and Fitness Carnival

It was indeed an exciting week when the Health Education and PE Department joined hands to organise the Health and Fitness Carnival on the second week of Term 4. Pupils were given skipping ropes during recess time to play and practice their skipping skills. Tokens were given to those who can show the judges some skipping 'tricks'.

A dazzling display of skipping skills during assembly by our invited guests 'wowed' the audience. Besides that posters on health-related matters were put up to give pupils a further explanation of keeping a healthy lifestyle.

Sandwich-making Competition

Just look at the beautifully decorated sandwiches!

We hope that through these activities, pupils will be more aware of the need to keep a healthy lifestyle - and you can have fun at the same time!

Welcome!

Welcome to Zhenghua Primary School (ZPS) HealthSite!

This is a trial site (or beta site) of our school's effort to share and inform everyone in ZPS, as well as anyone who wishes to know more about health programmes in our school and health-related issues. Do give suggestions as how we can improve this site to that it will benefit you!

About Health Education Programmes in Zhenghua Primary School

The Health Education Department has a vision that every pupil of Zhenghua is personally and socially responsible for the health and well-being of others and the environment. We also believe that every pupil should be equipped with the process skills and knowledge on health related matters regarding oral hygiene, environment hygiene, nutrition and physical fitness. They are personally and socially responsible for their own health conditions and those around them.

Our pupils can refer to the Health Education Board in the canteen and the Health Cart for important and latest information on health related matters. Updates on school health events can be found monthly on the school newsletter, The Homelink. An article from the Health Education Department will also be attached to it once a term for our parents’ reading pleasure.

TLLM

Assembly Programmes
In our efforts to promote quality learning with TLLM, the department organised assembly programmes, like talks on Nutrition and Eye Care. The school dental nurse gave a talk on proper tooth brushing techniques to our Primary 1 pupils. Our HE Ambassadors also gave a talk on HFM disease to the Primary 1 pupils and taught them the proper technique of washing hands. A drug skit sponsored by the Central Narcotics Board was also planned for the upper primary pupils.

Learning Journeys
Learning Journeys to the Healthzone for the Primary 2 and 4 gave the pupils a chance to look at health exhibits and attend workshop conducted by professionals. It also provided them hands-on activities and games related health issues. The pupils had a lot of fun and excitement.

School Events
Several health events are organized for the pupils throughout the whole year.

  1. Eye Care Week promotes outdoor activities. Games are planned to encourage pupils to give their eyes a break. Pupils also made posters and bookmarks to promote eye care.
  2. Fruitty Day is conducted once a term whereby the pupils are given free fruit to encourage them to eat more fruit and vegetables.
  3. Fruittie Veggies Bites Programme encourages pupils to eat fruit and vegetables regularly. They will get a small card each time they make such purchases from the canteen. The classes will combine their efforts to exchange for the big cards. This promotes teamwork.
  4. Dental Programme promotes proper oral care, schedules the Primary 1 and 2 pupils for tooth brushing exercises. This allows their teachers to check their tooth brushing techniques.
  5. Health and Fitness Carnival allows the pupils to play games to keep themselves fit and healthy.

Differentiated Programmes
Competitions and leadership workshops provide opportunities for the pupils to stretch their abilities.

Leadership Workshops

  1. Eye Care Monitors’ Briefing shares the roles and responsibilities of the Eye Care Monitors have in their classes.
  2. Restroom Ambassadors Workshop is conducted by the Restroom Association (Singapore), explaining to these pupils the importance of toilet hygiene and etiquettes.
  3. HE Ambassadors’ Meetings

Compeititons

  1. Project Health Genius Competition
  2. Revolving Eye Reporter Competition – Final Voting Stage
  3. “Towards A Smoke-Free World” Banner Design Competition
  4. Colgate “My Bright Smile” Global Calendar Competition

In all, the Health Education Department strives to enhance the well-being and character development of every pupil in Zhenghua Primary School through a dynamic school culture and a caring environment so that he/she is nurtured and his/her potential developed.

Eye Care Week 2008

The school organised several activities during the Eye Care Week, from 25.3.08 to 28.3.08, as part of the National Myopia Prevention Programme. There was an Eye Care assembly talk to reinforce the importance of good eye care habits among students. The Eye Care Monitor investiture was also held during the assembly talk. As the theme for NMPP 2008 is “Keep Myopia at Bay, Go Outdoors and Play!, hand-eye coordination games were available for pupils to participate in during recess. Pupils made Eye Care bookmarks or design Eye Care posters to participate in the intra-class art competition.

Dental Care
In line with holistic education, we promote good dental habits for our Primary 1 and 2 pupils to keep their teeth pearly white and clean. They take turns to brush their teeth after recess in Term 2. The Primary 1 pupils had a dental talk on 17.3.08 to teach them the correct way to brush their teeth.

Healthy Lifestyle - Fruity Day
Pupils had a sweet and juicy time with tangerines on 22.1.08 and grapes on 20.3.08. As part of the school’s efforts to encourage a healthy lifestyle amongst the pupils, the school gave out free fruits to all pupils during their recesses to promote healthy eating habits in them. Pupils were reminded to stay healthy by having 2 servings of fruit and 2 servings of vegetables every day.
